Apr 17, 2018Though the difference between this year's numbers of exhibitors and last year's is just a handful - 62 compared to 57 - the sale numbers increased by more than $7,000. This year's sale brought in $142,058.64. Last year's sale brought in $134,723.Kacie Gallegos, the Yoakum High School agriculture teacher, said the handful of new participants made a difference in the outcome of the sale."It's great that it went up; it's good for the show," Gallegos said.Another successful part of the livestock show was the guided tour of the show for more than 800 younger Yoakum-area students. Gallegos said she received positive feedback about the tours from the teachers and young students."At the end of the day, it's about exposing kids to agriculture and seeing live animals instead of just pictures," Gallegos said.
